Organising a city festival, a public celebration or a large corporate event and expecting a crowd in the thousands? Since 2004, Viduramžiai LT has built large-scale productions that fill squares and open-air stages with living medieval atmosphere — from historic villages and craft yards to knight tournaments and staged combat.

When a whole city celebrates, the stage has to hold something you cannot look away from. Every programme is scaled to the specific size of the event, the venue and the expected number of visitors — anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand people. We perform both under open skies on city squares and in enclosed halls and stages, and we offer both daytime and evening programme formats.

Our team has taken part in major city celebrations and historic-site events across the country — from recurring annual Hanseatic-tradition festivities to celebrations held on castle and manor grounds. That experience means logistics, crowd flow and programme timing for mass events are planned for in advance, not improvised on the day.

A mass event calls for a different level of planning than an intimate performance for a small group of guests. We have to think through how people will move across the square, where the crowd will gather in front of the stage, how the performance reads from the furthest point in the audience, and how the programme stays engaging even as part of the crowd arrives and leaves at different times. Our working method is built specifically for that kind of scale.

A mass-event programme is never built from a template. We adjust the number of instructors, performers and combatants, along with the size of the entertainment zones, to match the expected crowd — a town celebration of a few hundred people and a festival of several thousand call for a different scale of solution.

For large, open venues we design theatrical productions that stay visible and audible from a considerable distance — strong visual effects, professional stage technique and a carefully sequenced running order keep attention through the whole event.

The daytime part of the programme is usually built around families and hands-on activity — craft workshops, knight demonstrations and interactive stations for children and adults, where visitors don't just watch but get to try a medieval-era craft or game for themselves. The evening part shifts into a scripted, theatrical performance with stronger effects, focused on a single central stage or square.

The climax is often the largest fire show in Lithuania, performed in full compliance with safety requirements and coordinated in advance with the local authorities and relevant services. We agree the structure, timing and location of the programme with organisers well ahead of time, so it fits smoothly into the wider flow of the festival instead of competing with other stages or activities.

For a city festival, we can deliver a full, self-contained medieval-themed zone: building the tent village, coordinating craftspeople and vendors, hosting the programme throughout the day and running the evening performance block with its closing show. For organisers, that means a single accountable partner for the whole zone instead of separate suppliers for every piece of it.

A zone like this functions as an event within the event: visitors can spend the whole day there, watch craftspeople at work, join knight contests or educational activities, and come together for the main performance in the evening. That is especially useful for city-festival organisers who want a clear, recognisable themed zone among the festival's other spaces.

On request, we also build a custom script — a performance can be developed around a specific location's local legends, historical events or a city's anniversary theme, so the programme feels like part of that place's own story rather than a generic show. This kind of tailoring is especially valuable for anniversary city celebrations, where organisers want to highlight what makes their own region distinctive rather than present a generic, placeless programme.

A mass event is not only a performance — it is a responsibility for audience safety. All higher-risk zones, such as combat arenas and fire-show areas, are clearly fenced off from spectators, and staff are trained to manage crowd flow and respond to unexpected situations.

Ahead of every larger event, we also plan how spectators will move: where the crowd gathers to watch the performance, how it disperses once the programme ends, and where evacuation and service corridors need to stay clear. Clearly separated zones, a trained crew and a running order planned well ahead let the audience enjoy the day calmly, and let organisers trust the outcome without worrying about surprises in a large crowd.

Organising a mass event takes more than an impressive performance — it takes reliability. Organisers need to know the crew will arrive on time, the programme will run without disruption, and safety and logistics agreements will be honoured exactly as planned. That trust is built year after year working with city municipalities, cultural centres and community organisations for whom the single most important thing is that the biggest event of their year goes smoothly.
